Weldability Sif are proud to announce the launch of their new accredited Responsible Welding Coordinator training course, providing an EAL Level 4 Award and Certificate Of Achievement.
Since the European standard EN 1090 became mandatory in 2014 for all structural fabrication, it has become a requirement for each company to appoint a Responsible Welding Coordinator who is responsible for overseeing all factors affecting the quality-management system which governs their welding activities.
The Responsible Welding Coordinator, or ‘RWC’, is a role which was introduced with EN ISO 3834 and focuses on Quality Requirements for Fusion Welding. In Germany and other EU states, candidates for this role are often IIW/EWF-qualified welding engineers. In the UK, the shortage of IIW/EWF diploma-certified welders and inspectors means that the duties of the RWC role can fall on the time-served welding foreman or chargehand, with no formal training in the quality-management of welding.
To achieve (and retain) EN 1090 certification from the Awarding Bodies, such as TUV, BSI, BMTrada etc, the appointed RWC has to demonstrate proficiency during a detailed ‘Technical Competency Interview’, which can be daunting for those in need of formal training on quality-management.
The Weldability Sif EAL course features a distance-learning component for underpinning theory, followed by an intensive 4-day classroom- and workshop-based component focusing on :
- Materials, Consumables & Equipment
- Production Planning
- Testing, Inspection & Quality-Control
- Welding Procedures, Qualifications & Documentation
Following a practical, verbal and written assessment, the successful candidates receive an EAL Certificate Of Verifiable Achievement and a kit of useful document templates and RWC inspection tools.
For those candidates wishing to achieve the level of Welding Coordinator (a supporting role reporting to the RWC), Weldability Sif also offer a shorter, 3-day course leading to an EAL Level 3 Award, from which future progression to RWC can be made.
These courses are priced as below, and bookings are currently being taken for our regular classes.
- Level 4 Responsible Welding Coordinator – £2,935 +VAT
- Level 3 Welding Coordinator – £2,345 +VAT
